Children can learn, and succeed in anything.

To what extent they do so largely depends on the environment they are in, the treatment they receive, and what they experience.

ABOUT

Läroplan is a social company that designs and provides support and guidance for organizations in need of educational leadership or clarifying pedagogy. Läroplan also offers educational support to students in schools and education programs.

It is a well-known fact that there is an increase in neurodevelopmental disorders, mental health issues, and school refusals among Swedish children and youth, and that there are societal challenges affecting students' health, self-esteem and knowledge development. Läroplan works both in short and long term, supported by science and using professional tools, to adress these challenges, offering everything from support teaching and project management to sale of books, educational toys and graphic design.

Läroplan conducts business activities as a means to create societal benefit and measures outcomes in terms of socially beneficial goals. The majority of the surplus is reinvested into the operations. The company's services are based on scientific evidence and proven experience.

My name is Jakob Waller and I'm a trained educator, behavioral scientist, and licensed primary, secondary, and adult education teacher with a strong commitment to children and youth and an interest in cognitive psychology, and neuropedagogy. I have extensive experience working with children and youth, with 12 years as a teacher in both independent and public schools, as well as Waldorf and Montessori schools. I am trained in school leadership and have worked as section chief for municipal special needs schools for students struggling with regular schooling.

Having met and taught thousands of students in various school forms has been a privilege. It has brought me much joy, insight into the students' world, valuable knowledge, and sparked a particular interest in neurodivergent students in need of support and adaptation. Based on my experiences, I am convinced that all students can learn, and succeed in, anything. To what extent they do so largely depends on the environment they are in, the treatment they receive, and what they experience. Knowledge of cognitive psychology and neurodiversity has often proven crucial for my students' learning, especially students with neuropsychiatric disabilities. To follow my reasoning, gain inspiration, and deepen your understanding, I suggest this literature.

I'm a polymath and practical with high emotional intelligence, with a strong artistic and creative streak. I'm full of ideas and love graphic design and marketing. I am good at picking up details that others might overlook and process information from my surroundings deeply, which contributes to thoughtful and well-considered decisions. I am passionate about developing innovative teaching methods and dream of a school where each student's unique potential can be developed. I am also chairman of projekt ad astra, a non-profit organization with the purpose of conducting a science-based development project in school organization and neuropedagogy. SCREENING ASSESSMENT

Sometimes there may be a need for a screening and assessment of a student's school situation. Screening is mainly conducted to assess whether the student needs special support, but also to create a better learning environment around the student without establishing an action plan.

I conduct independent screening where I assess the student's strengths and difficulties at a school, group, and individual level. At the school level, this can involve how the school organizes its activities and allocates its resources. At the group level, it can involve how the learning environment and teaching are organized. At the individual level, I highlight the preconditions and previous interventions. The assessment also includes the student's and guardians' perceptions.

I compile the assessment and analyze how the school can design and adapt the learning environments within its activities, the content of the teaching, and propose methods to create conditions for the individual student. I use screening and assessment materials from the National Agency for Special Needs Education (SPSM) and support materials from the National Agency for Education (Skolverket), as well as tests from Digibility and Dysmate.

The assessment includes:

  • Background description
  • Educational conditions
  • Educational assessments by teachers
  • Screening of metacognition and working memory
  • Screening of reasoning ability and attention regulation
  • Screening of reading and writing skills
  • Interviews with the student, guardians, teachers, and other school staff
  • Results, analysis, and conclusion
  • Proposals for educational measures

REMEDIAL EDUCATION

I offer remedial education to all school students regardless of their needs, aiming to strengthen both subject knowledge and motivation, as well as study skills. The support is tailored to each student's specific needs and circumstances, catering to both neurotypical and neurodivergent students.

The support should be meaningful, enjoyable, and motivating. Emphasis is placed on encouraging curiosity, independence, creativity, and dynamic and critical thinking.

  • Subjects covered include all theoretical subjects in elementary school
  • Humanities and social science subjects in high school/adult education
  • Support is provided in the home, at the library, or digitally
  • Individually or in groups of up to 5 students

LECTURE

I offer the lecture Outstanding - on neurodiversity, neuropedagogy, and cognitive ergonomics.

Throughout all my years as a practicing teacher, I have observed a recurring pattern in how motivation and learning emerge in students. Some of the conclusions I draw stem from the concepts of neurodiversity and cognitive ergonomics. Alongside my observations, I gather current insights about the brain from neuroscientific and neuropedagogical perspectives.

CONSULTATION & SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT

The increasing number of Swedish school children receiving neuropsychiatric diagnoses and an increased number of school refusals is a challenge for many schools. Children who do not want or cannot be in school or who do not succeed in school cite time pressure, performance demands, lack of clarity, unpredictability, the perception of unattainable demands, and failure as contributing factors to stress and mental health issues. The prevalence of bullying and exclusion is another reason. At the same time, the teaching profession tops the list of occupations with the highest rates of sick leave due to work-related health issues.

I am convinced that it is possible to change this trend. To develop the future school that successfully counters these tendencies, innovative, holistic and knowledge-based efforts are required that take into account the needs of students as well as teachers.

  • I offer schools and educational institutions development strategies based on proven scientific principles aimed at creating more effective and harmonious school environments.
